Frequently asked questions
Questions, answered
Taking the first step toward therapy can bring up a lot of questions. Below you'll find answers about Ali's therapeutic style, what to expect in sessions, and the practical details of working together.
Therapeutic Style & Philosophy
What can I expect from our work together?
You can expect a warm, grounded partnership focused on helping you learn who you truly are and build genuine confidence in your identity. Therapy with me isn't about “fixing” you—it’s about creating a safe, compassionate environment where you can explore your values, process past experiences, and embrace every side of yourself. Together, we’ll work to quiet self-doubt, strengthen your trust in your own intuition, and build the tools you need to step fully and confidently into your life.
How do I know if you're the right therapist for me?
Finding the right therapist comes down to fit and safety. If you are looking for a space where you can be 100% authentically yourself—where your pain is taken seriously, your story is met without judgment, and you are supported by someone who understands that real life is messy—we will likely work well together. I blend clinical expertise with real-world understanding to provide a supportive environment for your growth. However, therapy is never one-size-fits-all, and your comfort and progress are what matter most. If we get started and either of us feels that my approach or specialties aren't the absolute best match for your specific needs, there are no hard feelings—I will happily provide trusted referral information to other local providers or resources to help connect you with the right support.
Is it normal to laugh or use humor in therapy?
Absolutely—and it’s just as normal to cry, sit in silence, or feel deeply serious. When you are going through hard things, I will always hold a safe, grounded, and steady space for your grief, pain, and heavy emotions. At the same time, laughter is a proven, evidence-based tool for lowering stress hormones, releasing somatic tension, and helping the brain reframe overwhelmed thoughts. Using humor in our sessions isn't “toxic positivity” or brushing difficult feelings under the rug; it’s a natural way to build resilience. We can honor the real weight of what you're experiencing while still leaving room for joy, relief, and human connection.
Opening up to a stranger feels intimidating. What if I feel awkward or uncomfortable being vulnerable?
Feeling nervous or uncomfortable about being vulnerable is completely normal—in fact, it’s a very human response to doing hard, brave work. Sharing the raw or messy parts of your story takes courage, and it doesn't happen instantly. We will go at a pace that feels safe for you. My practice is built on a strictly zero-judgment, authentic approach. I became a therapist for a reason, and I bring my own real-life experience and humanity into the room. No matter what you are carrying, you don't have to censor yourself or worry about being “too much.” I am here to provide a steady, secure space where you can let your guard down without fear of criticism.
Medical & Interdisciplinary Care
Do you collaborate with my doctor, psychiatrist, or OBGYN?
Yes, with your explicit permission! Mental health is deeply interconnected with your overall physical well-being. Whether you are managing anxiety, navigating hormonal patterns alongside your OBGYN, coordinating medication management with a psychiatrist, or working through general health concerns with your primary care provider, I am happy to collaborate with your care team. Coordination of care is completely voluntary and handled with strict confidentiality. If you would like us to collaborate, we will simply sign a Release of Information (ROI) so I can connect with your other providers, ensuring your physical and mental healthcare are aligned, integrated, and fully supporting you.
Telehealth & Session Setup
How do telehealth sessions work?
Telehealth allows you to receive quality care from the comfort and privacy of your own space anywhere in Florida. Sessions are conducted via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. All you need is a private space, a stable internet connection, and a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
What should I expect during our first session (intake)?
The initial session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We will review your background, discuss what brings you to therapy, and explore your goals. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask questions and see how comfortable you feel working together. There is no pressure to share everything right away—we build trust step-by-step.
Billing, Insurance & Good Faith Estimates
Do you accept insurance?
Yes — I accept select insurance plans through Headway, as well as self-pay. See the full list of currently accepted plans on the Services & Rates page, or check your coverage directly through Headway.
What are your self-pay rates and sliding scale options?
Rates vary by session type (initial assessment vs. standard session), and a limited number of sliding-scale slots are available based on financial need. Current rates are always kept up to date on the Services & Rates page — reach out directly to ask about sliding-scale availability.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services.
